English law services for businesses in the Gulf.

Western Legal acts for companies and founders across the Gulf on the full width of English commercial law: contracts, company and deals, commercial property, disputes, arbitration and debt recovery, employment for UK staff, data protection, and UK and EU trademarks. English law is the most widely chosen governing law for international trade in the region, and it is the law we draft in. All work is delivered remotely by a Solicitor of England and Wales (SRA No. 641612) at fixed fees agreed in writing before work begins. We do not advise on UAE, Saudi, Qatari or Jordanian law; local law is referred to correspondent counsel in that jurisdiction.

Handled entirely in writing. No hearings, no meetings, no attendance required.

English law services for businesses in the Gulf

English law is the governing law of Gulf trade

Cross border contracts across the Gulf are routinely written under English law, because it is predictable, well documented and understood by counterparties on both sides.

We draft and review distribution, agency, supply, licensing, SaaS and services agreements under English law for companies in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman and Jordan.

Arbitration is the enforcement route that works

An English court judgment is not straightforwardly enforceable across much of the region. An arbitral award is, because Gulf states are parties to the New York Convention.

That makes the dispute clause the most valuable clause in your contract. We draft it around where your counterparty holds assets, not as boilerplate.

UK trademarks and UK market entry

Gulf brands expanding into the United Kingdom need a UK registration. Filing, prosecution and opposition defence are handled here at fixed fees.

For companies setting up in the UK we deliver the structure, the English law commercial terms, trademark protection and a compliance map as one package.

Languages

Enquiries are welcome in Arabic, Persian, Turkish, French and English. Send documents in whichever language you hold them.

All advice, drafting and correspondence is delivered in English, because the work is English law. Certified translation and interpreters are arranged where needed, with the cost agreed before it is incurred.

Company and deals

UK incorporation, SPVs, shareholder agreements, resolutions and filings, buying and selling businesses, due diligence and completion.

What we do not do is your local law. That is referred to correspondent counsel in your jurisdiction, and we tell you before any cost arises.

The basis on which we act

Santosh Pandey is a Solicitor of England and Wales, SRA No. 641612, and is not admitted to practise in any jurisdiction in the Gulf. Our advice is limited to the law of England and Wales, and to UK and EU trademark procedure. We do not advise on local law and we do not represent that we are able to do so.

Work is carried out from London and delivered in writing. Where a matter needs a local law view, correspondent counsel in that jurisdiction takes it, and we work alongside them rather than around them. Where you do not yet have local counsel, we say so rather than fill the gap.

Every engagement letter states this in terms before any work begins, so the limit on what we can advise on is agreed in writing at the outset rather than discovered later.

Common questions

FAQs.

Do you advise on UAE or Saudi law?

No. We advise on English law and on UK and EU trademark procedure. Local law questions are referred to correspondent counsel in the relevant jurisdiction, with the cost agreed with you first.

Can you accept documents in Arabic?

Yes, send them in whichever language you hold them. Where a certified translation is needed we arrange it and confirm the cost before it is incurred. The advice itself is delivered in English.

Will an English law contract be enforceable here?

An arbitral award under an English law contract is enforceable across the Gulf under the New York Convention. A court judgment is a harder route, which is why the dispute clause matters more than most clients expect.

How are fees charged?

Fixed fees in USD agreed in writing before work begins, valid for 30 days. Official fees are passed through at cost. No VAT is charged.
