Common questions

FAQs.

What happens if I ignore the TM7?

Miss the two-month deadline for the TM8 counterstatement and your application is treated as abandoned for the opposed goods, and the official fees are gone. The deadline is the whole game; send the notice the day it arrives.

Is £1,200 really the total?

For a standard defence, yes: fixed, with no VAT, agreed in writing before you pay. Compare the market: national IP firms quote £700 to £5,000 plus VAT for the same procedure, usually on open-ended hourly terms.

What are my realistic chances?

That is exactly what the free 24-hour review answers, honestly. Some oppositions are strong and settlement is the smart play; many are tactical and collapse under a properly drafted counterstatement. You get the frank view before committing a pound.

Who will actually run my defence?

The same solicitor who defended and won a contested opposition outright, with costs awarded, against specialist national IP firm Appleyard Lees: UKIPO Decision O/1132/25, on the public register.

Can you also oppose someone else's mark for me?

Yes, the attacking side runs the same track in reverse: watch notice, TM7 grounds, evidence. If a conflicting application threatens your brand, the two-month window applies to you too.
